英語中news與newspaper的具體用法
在英語翻譯中news與newspaper是日常生活中經(jīng)常遇到的單詞，但news與newspaper的具體用法在日常口語中經(jīng)常出錯，今天小編和大家梳理一下news與newspaper這兩個單詞日常使用的具體方法。
一、news的用法
1. 表示“消息”“報道”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：
現(xiàn)在報道幾條有趣的新聞。
誤：Here are some interesting news.
正：Here is some interesting news.
正：Here are some interesting pieces [items] of news.
2. 表示“有關(guān)……的消息或報道等”，通常后接介詞 of, about。如：
What’s the latest news about the election? 選舉的最新消息是什么?
I was happy at the news of his return. 聽到他歸來的消息我很高興。
二、newspaper的用法
1. 表示“報紙”，可視為 news（消息）和paper（紙）組合而成，但兩者均為不可數(shù)名詞，而 newspaper作為供人閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西——報紙，它是可數(shù)的。如：
我進來時他在讀報紙。
誤：When I entered he was reading a piece of newspaper.
正：When I entered he was reading a newspaper.
比較：a piece of news (paper) 一條新聞（一張紙）
但是值得注意的是：若不是將 newspaper當作是供閱讀或傳遞信息的一種東西，而是把它僅僅當成一種“紙”來看待，則也可用作不可數(shù)名詞。如：
Wrap it in (a sheet of) newspaper. 用（張）報紙把它包起來。
2. 其前用介詞 in 和 on, 含義有差別：
Look, there is a photo in the newspaper. 瞧，報上登有一張照片。
Look, there is a photo on the newspaper. 瞧，報上放有一張照片。
